Emergency Medical Services Workers' Day

Russia's Emergency Medical Services Workers' Day honours the people behind an urgent response: doctors, feldshers, nurses, dispatchers and drivers. It recognises a team effort in which getting help to someone quickly can make all the difference.

How it is celebrated: services present staff awards, while colleagues and patients share messages of thanks. Medical organisations introduce the public to ambulance work, teach first aid and explain what information a dispatcher needs during an emergency call.

The date recalls Moscow's first ambulance stations, established in 1898. They operated from police stations, and their ambulances were horse-drawn carriages.
