World Animal Reiki Day

A day devoted to reiki for pets: a gentle practice in which a person holds their hands near an animal to help it relax.

How it is celebrated: owners and practitioners offer quiet sessions for cats, dogs and horses, talk about reiki at animal shelters, and swap ideas for creating a calm space for a pet.

Reiki began in Japan in the early twentieth century and is credited to Mikao Usui. It is a complementary practice for relaxation, not a replacement for a vet, so a sick animal still needs a proper check-up.
