International Women Physicians Day
February 3 · Level 5 · #1233 of 2238

Women Physicians Day recognizes women who care for patients, advance medical research and train the next generation of doctors. It is also a chance to remember the barriers women faced simply to enter medical school.
How it is celebrated: medical communities share doctors’ stories, thank colleagues and discuss career opportunities. Mentoring activities connect experienced physicians with women beginning their medical careers.
The date is Elizabeth Blackwell’s birthday. In 1849, she became the first woman to earn a medical degree in the United States, opening a door that had long been closed.
