World Heart Day

World Heart Day focuses on cardiovascular health and preventing heart disease and stroke. It encourages conversations about everyday habits, living conditions and access to care that can make a difference to millions of lives.

How it is celebrated: communities organize awareness talks, blood pressure checks, walks and sporting activities. Campaigns explain risk factors, while landmarks are illuminated in red to draw attention to the cause.

The event did not always have a fixed calendar date. It was originally held on the last Sunday of September before moving to 29 September in 2011.
