International Silly Walks Day
January 7 · Level 7 · #744 of 2238
International Silly Walks Day turns an everyday stroll into a small comedy performance. Inspired by a Monty Python sketch, this unofficial celebration gives people a reason to loosen up, walk absurdly and share a laugh.
How it is celebrated: fans gather for walks featuring exaggerated strides, high knees and their own improbable moves. Some wear business suits and carry briefcases to recreate the very serious appearance of John Cleese’s character.
The original sketch gives silly walking its own government ministry. Its officials even consider applications for funding to develop new walks: an impressively bureaucratic approach to being ridiculous.
