International Laserist Day
March 7 · Level 7 · #806 of 2238

This is a day for people who paint with light: laser show designers, artists and engineers who work with laser equipment. It reminds the audience that behind every bright beam on stage there is careful planning and a lot of attention to safety.
How it is celebrated: professionals share new shows, swap tips and put on laser displays in planetariums, clubs and open-air venues. Colleagues also take a moment to go over the rules for working safely with a beam.
The word laser began as an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The first working laser, built with a ruby crystal, was made by Theodore Maiman in 1960.
