International Cheetah Day
December 4 · Level 8 · #612 of 2238

International Cheetah Day shines a light on the fastest land animal, which is finding it harder to survive in the wild. People talk about protecting savannas and keeping the big cats safe from lost habitat and poaching.
How it is celebrated: zoos and wildlife centres share cheetah stories, run tours and fundraisers, and schoolchildren draw pictures and write reports about them.
A cheetah can sprint at around 100 kilometres per hour, yet it cannot roar. It purrs and chirps instead, a bit like an oversized house cat.
