CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day

CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day

This day shines a light on CLOVES syndrome, a rare genetic condition in which some tissues of the body grow more than they should. The aim is to help doctors and the public recognise it and to make life easier for affected families.

How it is celebrated: patient families and support groups share personal stories, pass on information about the condition and raise money for research. Many people wear bright colours and join in with awareness hashtags.

The name is an acronym of its main features: congenital lipomatous overgrowth, vascular malformations, epidermal nevi, and skeletal or spinal anomalies. The syndrome is linked to changes in the PIK3CA gene that arise after conception, so they are not inherited from parents.
